I was a home health cna and it’s insane the things that we deal with in the home. I have no desire as an RN now to go back to home health. The homes were sometimes dangerous.

Half of those never made it to the patient, many went home with them. All nurses had a medicine shelf in their closet in case someone at home ever needed medicine. They did it with antibiotics etc.

Almost six years ago I brought my bedridden 81yo mother home from a nursing home. She has dementia, too, and I was told by the staff that I’d never be able to take care of her. I said, We’ll see. I was tired of finding her doped up, sleepy and nauseated. At home I weaned her off Norco, and she came alive. She no longer needed the laxative, stool softener, and anti-nausea medications either since those problems were caused by the Norco. She’s doing pretty well. Had a stroke 2 years ago, but recovered fully. Other than that we’ve done pretty well.

In 2004 my son was born premature and we were both sick, every time I asked to go see him the nurse would bring me a pill and told me to take the pill and she would come help me go to the nicu in 15 minutes, I would pass out and wake up hours later on the 15th my son passed away unfortunately and I never got to hold him before then.

this was maybe what DHE DID, but it was NOT happening even 40 years ago.. there were STRICT procedures to document meds and controlled substances from the pharmacy..counted and accounted for at each change of shift.

Where was this? Was it charted and wasn't there a narcotic count? As a nurse I Never had free access to narcs to give to anyone without it being prescribed

Also they would have one nurse for like 20 patients they needed them to sleep. It’s really sad what privatizing healthcare has done and how private hospital companies have made it a business.

Why are people still surprised at this? Our healthcare system is awful! Wake up and stop playing dumb!!

As a phlebotomist, I’m thinking of doing either outpatient LPN or outpatient RN, but no one can give an answer for the difference in what they do, how much they make, etc.

Would be better if you actually showed where to put it under your tongue. How far back? As far as it can go or just the middle.

That’s very low for a new grad RN! I’m a LPN and I bring home and gross more than that…not to say anything is wrong because RN make more than LPN 90% off the time…

I’m trying to leave bedside nursing once my 1 year residency program is up.. it’s a great experience but I want to try something else. I am also in Georgia currently in school for Psych NP so hopefully I can find something as a psych nurse or something outpatient.

The old timers at work would tell us they didn’t use gloves back in the day…

AIDS came about.

Back in the day, the patients thought you thought they were dirty/contagious etc. Everything was skin to skin, and you learned how to stay clean. Infection control was in charge back then and washing your hands was ritual. Anything truly contagious was red bagged etc.

Do you recommend things other than medicine when talking to patients who have a recurrent problem? I'm almost done with nursing school and I'm stuck between ER or L&D. But I love learning about women's health because I went through something for six months until I finally found a PA that listened to me. I thought about becoming a women's health NP, but I'm not so sure. However, I would love to teach more homeopathic medicines as well.

My Sister in-law was hella stressed out at her work & had a Brain Aneurysm and now couldn't work Bec she got stroke 😢 my Aunt who was a Nurse for 35 yrs she died because of the Cancer in her stomach Bec she said she couldn't take a break or never be in time taking a break. Even my 6 cousins are RN's and said that they don't have life. It's not a career but it's a Killer. Hmm what is the worth of money? If it's no life and living like a Humanbeing 😪 sad.
